Conference-Wide Game
Location: Anaheim Convention Center (Anaheim, California)
Greg Trefry and I were commissioned by the ALA
American Library Association
to create a game for their annual conference
in Anaheim, CA. We created a California literary-themed and sms-enabled
game for the librarians to play over the course of several days during the conference (June 29-30, 2008).
The game operated under the veil of a light narrative about the disarray of California's myths.
As members of The California Myth Authority, players helped put order to the chaos by using their
mobile phones to text solutions to literary and film trivia, reenacting famous myths, and searching for mythical characters.
Greg and I released the materials used to build and run the game with the hopes that
librarians will run similar games in their home libraries, based on their own area's myths, legends, and folklore.
